For the first time since the NBA expanded outside of the United States, a Canadian team has won the world title! The Toronto Raptors lead by Kawhi Leonard defeated the two time reigning champions, The Golden State Warriors in six games by a final score of 114-110. Leonard also went on to win the NBA Finals MVP award with an avg. of 28.5 pts., 4.1 assists and 9.8 total rebounds. Leonard has now won the NBA Finals MVP in both the Eastern Conference and for the Western Conference with the San Antonio Spurs.

The Golden State Warriors were without one of their star players in Kevin Durant for all but 12 minutes of the Finals with a leg injury, further resulting in a ruptured achilles during game five. In game six the Warriors’ sharpshooter, Klay Thompson tore the ACL in his left knee with three minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Warriors were built for a championship and unfortunately just fell short this season, which the Raptors took advantage of.
